Lizbeth Aquirre was traveling on 17th Avenue in Springfield, Tennessee when another driver ran a red light causing the collision.
Lizbeth was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital where she was admitted and treated for multiple injuries including a fractured pelvis, fractured back, lacerated bladder, head trauma and internal bleeding. Lencoya's children were also taken to Vanderbilt Hospital. Shawn suffered fractures to his skull and eye requiring surgery and resulting in medical bills of over $80,000.00. Coleshawn suffered minor injuries with medical bills just over $2,000.00.
As legal counsel for Ms. Crawford, my law firm filed a law suit in the Davidson County Circuit Court (Case Number 01C552) against the adverse driver and the police department. A confidential settlement was reached with the police department. Our office pursued a judgment on damages against the adverse driver. Although we knew any judgment would be basically uncollectable (because the adverse driver did not have insurance or assets), we thought it was important to obtain an award against the drunk driver. A judge heard the case and Lencoya Crawford and her family received a judgment against the adverse driver for over one million dollars.
