Nashville-area high school coach killed in car accident

Students and staff at a Nashville-area high school were devastated late last month by the news that a beloved coach and teacher had been killed in a traffic accident. Compounding the tragedy, police said the other driver in the car accident was a student at the school.

The 58-year-old coach at Lebanon High School was broadsided by the student's car at an intersection, police said. Officials said that cars parked on the side of the road for a nearby party may have blocked the victim's view of oncoming cars as he pulled out into traffic. The other driver may have been speeding, police said.

After someone is injured or killed in a traffic accident, police investigate the crash in an effort to determine exactly what happened. These accident reports can be valuable in determining who, if anyone, was more at fault.

Those who have been injured in a car accident can face severe injuries, extremely high medical expenses, lost wages and other damages. When someone is killed in a traffic accident, the surviving family is left without the loved one's companionship and income. When these damages are caused by another driver's recklessness, the injured or their families may be compensated for their damages through a lawsuit based on negligence.

In many of these cases, different parties in the accident may have acted negligently. For instance, one party may have been texting and driving while the other was running a stop sign or otherwise disregarding traffic safety laws. In many of these cases, a court will apportion the liability for injuries according to each party's share of legal blame for the accident.

A tragic car accident can devastate a whole community. Nashville residents who have lost a loved one to an accident or been injured themselves should investigate their legal options. A lawsuit could help the injured or their families to cope with the aftermath.
