Three-car Tennessee accident leaves one dead, several hurt

After a traffic accident, it can be hard for Tennessee police to tell what went wrong or who, if anyone, was at fault. After a car accident in which people are injured or killed, police investigate the scene and come up with a preliminary report. However, the investigation may continue for a long time afterward. There are many cases, however, in which police think they know what happened soon after the accident.

Recently, one person was killed and several others were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Murfreesboro. Police said a Chevy minivan pulled in front of a Ford pickup and then collided with a Ford sedan that was stopped at a stop sign. The minivan rolled before coming to a stop.

A passenger in the minivan was killed. The minivan's driver was injured, as were three infant children in the vehicle. The driver of the sedan was also injured. Police said they suspect the minivan's driver was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash.

When a person is injured in a car accident due to another negligent driver, the injured may be compensated for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Drivers are negligent when they fail to exercise the same level of care that a reasonable driver would under similar circumstances. Driving while drunk is strong evidence of negligence. There are other instances where negligence may be presumed including running a stop sign and violating other traffic safety laws.

Tennessee residents who have been injured in car accidents can seek compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. One of the first steps involved with the lawsuit will be to conduct an investigation of the circumstances of the accident. This involves getting a copy of the police report, medical reports and other documents related to the accident. Qualified legal professionals can help ensure one's rights are protected and justice is served.
