Motorcyclist dead after collision with apparently drunk driver

The freedom of range that motorcyclists enjoy comes at a price. That price is increased vulnerability to greater harm in an accident. This increased vulnerability is often a matter of life and death -- riders of motorcycles are at far greater risk of fatality in accidents than drivers of bigger, more protected vehicles.

A recent accident on a Nashville highway left a motorcyclist dead. Sometime around midnight where the highway splits between I-40 and I-24, a sedan struck a motorcycle ridden by a Tennessee man. The motorcycle stuck to the sedan and the sedan then swerved into a guardrail. The rider was ejected from his motorcycle and he died as a result of his injuries.

The man who was driving the sedan fled the scene on foot. After being discovered shortly after fleeing, police administered field sobriety tests and found that the man performed badly. He was then held on bond.

The results of field sobriety tests are just one of the ways in which the families of victims killed in these accidents can provide evidence against a driver suspected to be at fault. Other ways include providing the results of a breathalyzer test, showing phone records which prove that the driver was either at a bar shortly before an accident or talking on the phone while driving, and providing evidence that a driver was speeding. These are a few of the many ways that evidence can be used to bring a negligent driver to justice in court.

Negligence takes many forms and there are many ways to prove that a driver was negligent. Many of the laws involved are complicated though, and the assistance of a lawyer is oftentimes necessary for anyone bringing such a claim to court. By pursuing a negligence claim in court, families of victims in these fatal motorcycle accidents have a chance at securing compensation and healing some of the damage inflicted on them.
