Head-on collision possibly caused by distracted driver

Distracted driving is one of the most dangerous behaviors a person can engage in while on the road. People who operate motor vehicles are expected to exercise the amount of care necessary to prevent an accident from occurring. By talking or texting on a cell phone, a driver's ability to exercise this care is deeply impaired. Because of this, distracted drivers are often found to be guilty of negligence and are thus liable for the damages and injuries resulting from a crash.

A recent tragedy in Tennessee was possibly caused by a driver who was distracted by a cell phone, according to reports. A 49-year-old woman was driving south on a Nashville highway when her vehicle was struck by a sedan driven by a 22-year-old woman. The 22-year-old was driving north and had moved into the right lane in order to pass another vehicle. As she was driving back into the northbound lane, her cell phone began ringing and the 22-year-old reached for it.

As she reached for her phone, the sedan swerved over the median and entered the southbound lane that the 49-year-old woman was driving on. The two cars crashed in a head-on collision. The vehicle being driven by the 49-year-old rolled over onto the driver's side; as a result, fire fighters had to cut her out of her vehicle. By the time emergency crews arrived, the woman had tragically passed away.

When victims are injured or family members are lost in car accidents as the result of another driver's negligence, there are legal options available. Victims and their families are often forced to endure further grief in the form of medical expenses and lost wages. While there is nothing that can be done to erase the tragedy and heartache, it is possible in some cases to pursue compensation for the financial hurt.
