Man claims a braking defect in his GM car caused accident

Motor vehicles were once a rarity, but nowadays you would be hard-pressed to find a Nashville household that does not own at least one car. With this ubiquity comes an increasing awareness of the safety issues that accompany the use of these machines. Many modern cars feature cutting-edge safety systems, which can save lives when used properly. However, when such mechanisms are improperly installed or suffer from design flaws, these systems can in fact create dangerous situations.

One man is claiming that his 2014 GM Impala suffers from a braking defect that resulted in a car accident. The Impala is one of many newer vehicles featuring an automatic braking system, which is designed to activate when the car comes close to an impact. This man asserts that his brakes engaged without cause, stopping the car abruptly and causing another person to rear-end him. He maintains that the automatic brakes have initiated inappropriately multiple times.

The man brought the issue to the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is now conducting a preliminary evaluation into the matter. This report does not offer any timeline for the agency's final conclusion, nor does it indicate whether the man is pursuing litigation against GM.

When a vehicle contains an auto defect such as a brake failure, serious injuries can result. Those who have been hurt as the result of driving or riding in cars bearing failed auto components may have the right to sue the car manufacturer. If you have been injured by such a defect, you may wish to seek the advice of a lawyer.
