Recall expanded for defective IKEA lamps

Nashville is home to many young parents who hold the safety and well-being of their children as their top priorities. These parents believe that when they purchase products, particularly those marketed for children, these items are completely safe. Unfortunately, that is not always the case; sometimes severe injuries can result if an item suffers from defective product design. When a child dies as the result of using a dangerous product, family members of the deceased may wish to pursue a claim against the manufacturer to ensure the problem is corrected.

IKEA recently announced that it is expanding a recall of children's wall lamps which pose a strangulation hazard. Sixteen styles are currently included in the recall, but it is unclear from this report which of these are additions to the existing recall. Those who are in possession of any affected products are asked to stop using them and repair them with a kit provided by the company.

These lamps were part of a previous recall announced in December 2013. That event was sparked by the death of a 16-month-old child, as well as the near-strangulation of a 15-month-old. Both of these accidents happened in European countries. This announcement does not offer reports of any other related injuries, either internationally or in the United States.

When a wrongful death results from the use of a dangerous or defective product, relatives of the deceased may want to file a civil suit against any responsible parties. Those who believe they may have a viable product liability claim may wish to discuss the details of their situation with an attorney, who can help them understand their legal options.
