Driver tests positive for drugs after fatal head-on collision

One of the most dangerous things about driving, especially on busy roadways, is that it is often impossible to predict the actions of other drivers. One driver's reckless behavior, failure to yield or sudden swerve, can quickly and easily cause an auto accident. Unfortunately, some of these accidents turn out to be fatal.

In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, a recent head-on collision resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man. The accident occurred when a 31-year-old female driver crossed the yellow lines into oncoming traffic on Lascassas Pike. After crossing the yellow lines, the female driver collided with a Ford Ranger, whose driver died at the scene of the accident. The man driving the Ranger had attempted to avoid the oncoming car by pulling onto the shoulder of the road but was unable to prevent the collision. The driver of the other car is facing criminal charges after testing positive for drugs.

When a driver is intoxicated or under the influence of drugs when an accident occurs, it is often easier to determine who is at fault for the accident. However, these situations are especially tragic because the accident was entirely avoidable if the driver had chosen not to drive while under the influence. In these situations, victims of serious car accidents or their surviving family members may choose to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.

While filing a lawsuit against a negligent driver will never bring back a deceased loved one or undo the damages caused, it can provide some closure by holding a negligent or reckless driver legally accountable for his or her actions. In addition, a lawsuit can provide a family with needed financial compensation to cover medical costs, rehabilitation or treatment, lost income or funeral expenses. Although it may seem difficult to initiate a lawsuit soon after such a traumatic incident, the compensation may help the family move towards healing.
