Woman hit by a drunk driver who then left the scene

Automobile accidents are frequently caused by weather conditions, road conditions, inattention or negligence of other drivers, and mechanical failures. Unfortunately, it is also common to see alcohol related accidents. Drunk drivers commonly cause car crashes, ranging from minor accidents that only cause property damage to more serious accidents with severe injuries or fatalities.

A woman was recently hit by a drunk driver outside Nashville in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. It was initially a hit and run accident as he left the scene, but he later returned to the crash and got into a dispute with the woman whose car he hit.

Neither the man nor the woman was injured in the crash but the woman's car was damaged in the incident.

After refusing a field sobriety test but admitting to having had a couple of drinks and taking hydrocodone, police took him to a hospital for a blood test. When police checked his license, they discovered that, since 1991, he has been convicted for DUI six times. He was arrested and charged with several crimes, including DUI-fourth offense or more.

Although police and law enforcement place great emphasis on finding, stopping and deterring drunk drivers, they are not always successful. Unfortunately, a drunk driver's decision to drive drunk often has serious and catastrophic effects on the lives of those involved in accidents they cause. The woman in the story above only sustained property damage, but many other drivers and passengers are not so lucky. In these situations, many people choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against a drunk driver because the decision to break the law is much more than just negligence, an "accident," or inattention.

When filing a lawsuit against a drunk driver who caused a car accident, any evidence related to the drunk driver and his or her history may be relevant. If police arrested the driver after the incident and took a breath test or blood sample, such evidence can help establish liability. The driving record and criminal record of the driver, including any past DUI incidents or convictions, can also be powerful evidence that can help a plaintiff achieve a positive outcome in the case.
