Are you familiar with defective medical devices?

It goes without saying that you rely on your medical team to provide you with high quality advice and guidance. Furthermore, you hope that any medical device you come in contact with will improve your level of health. Unfortunately, there are times when a defective medical device harms or kills a patient.

Despite the fact that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does its best to keep these products off the market, they continue to slip through the cracks. As a result, thousands of innocent people are harmed every year.

Some of the most common types of defective medical devices include:

-- Transvaginal mesh implants. Used to help treat urinary incontinence, many of these implants have been proven defective. As a result, they have led to serious complications.

-- LASIK eye surgery. The equipment used in LASIK eye surgery must be precise and accurate at all times. When it's not, the end result can be serious damage to the patient's cornea.

-- Metal hip replacement. In most cases, injuries caused by a metal hip replacement are the fault of the manufacturer. Even so, there are times when a surgeon can also be held responsible for any injuries.

In a perfect world, patients would never have to worry about a defective medical device. However, with so many people requiring care, it's only natural for some of these products to make their way to market.

If you or a loved one have been injured by a defective medical device, don't hesitate to seek the appropriate medical care and then learn more about your legal rights.
