11 Ways You Can Help an Accident Victim this Holiday Season

An accident is unfortunate any time of year, but the holidays can add another layer of difficulty. It's a season of traveling to see family, gift giving, and parties...all of which are in jeopardy when an accident occurs. The accident victim may not have access to a car or can't afford to replace their car.

Money can be tight, and sometimes the best thing you can do as a friend is to carry a tiny piece of their burden by doing something nice for them. A good deed can go a long way, especially in a time of uncertainty.

We've put together a list of ideas to get you started, but think creatively about what your friend or coworker needs.

1. Take them a meal. Whether it's a home-cooked meal or picked up from their favorite restaurant, a meal will be appreciated.

2. Offer to do a home repair, either inside or outside. The accident victim might be sore or injured and may not able to make a necessary repair.

3. Send them a gift card. Repairs can be expensive, and your friend may need some extra help financially to offset the cost of getting their car fixed.

4. Offer to connect them with a trusted source like a car repair shop or dealership. Perhaps make the phone call for them to help out.

5. Take them holiday shopping. If they are without a car, they'll still need to go out and about to shop for family members.

6. Bring them a movie and popcorn. Make it a comedy, and have a good laugh to take their mind off of the accident!

7. Surprise them with their favorite board game...and stick around to play.

8. Give them the gift of pampering. A gift card to get a massage could be the ticket to relaxation. Or if you are DIYer, pick up a mason jar and fill it with pampering items like nail polish, foot scrub, eye mask, or their favorite candy. Call it a "relax kit."

9. Childcare. In these moments, it can be hard to find free time to get things done, and providing childcare can give them a free hour or two to knock out a to-do list.

10. Send them a card. In moments of difficulty, a card with encouragement can mean the world.

11. Do a random act of kindness together planned by you. Let your friend enjoy the moment of giving back without the stress of planning it.

Accidents can throw us into a whirlwind of to-do lists and changes to plans. Be a light to someone this holiday season by doing a good deed and letting them know you care! Sometimes just the offer will brighten their day!
