Are you suffering from a defective metal hip implant?

If chronic hip pain is making your life miserable, there may come a point when you opt for hip replacement surgery.

While there are a variety of hip implants to consider, it's likely that you'll rely on the expertise of your medical team for guidance.

Unfortunately, there are times when mistakes are made. Metal on metal hip replacements, for instance, were intended to be long-lasting and durable. The exact opposite has happened, as this design has been linked to a number of injuries and other issues.

Many patients have reported that their metal hip replacement required replacing after only a few short years. This is often related to friction between the socket and metal ball, leading to a breakdown of material.

As the material continues to breakdown, metallic particles are released into the blood, thus putting the patient in a worse position. If not treated in a timely and appropriate manner, this can lead to blood poisoning, bone loss, inflammation and infection.

Many metal on metal hip replacement systems have been recalled, including Smith & Nephew R3 Metal Liners of the R3 Acetabular System, DePuy ASR TM XL Acetabular System and the Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II modular neck hip systems.

If you have any reason to believe that you are suffering from a defective metal hip implant, it's imperative that you discuss this with your medical team. From there, you can better understand what happened, your options for moving forward and how to solve the problem once and for all.

As you focus on your health, you should also learn more about your legal rights.
