Taking new medications can affect your driving safety

When we drive frequently, the skills required seem to come second nature and we may not realize how much the slightest impairment can truly affect our ability to drive safely. When taking medications, there is always a risk that it could affect your driving. When taking a new medication whether it is a prescription or over the counter, here are some things to consider before hopping behind the wheel.

Long term use of proton pump inhibitors linked to deadly side effects

Proton Pump Inhibitors, or PPIs, reduce stomach acid by blocking the enzyme that produces the acid. PPIs are used to help prevent heartburn, stomach ulcers, and other issue caused by excess stomach acid. Some PPIs are prescription only but some are available over the counter. A 2016 study has shown that long term use of PPIs has been linked to chronic kidney disease, as well as other side effects, some of which could be deadly.

Invokana and other SGLT2 inhibitors can cause severe side effects

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors like Invokana are drugs created to help people with type 2 diabetes by lowering the user's blood sugar levels by causing the kidneys to excrete glucose through the urine. This lowers the amount of glucose in the user's bloodstream. However, studies have shown that user's kidneys are also excreting other crucial things that are causing severe, and sometimes life threatening side effects. If you or a loved one is using Invokana, you may be at risk.

Takata to pay $1B in 'world's biggest automotive safety recall'

According to Reuters, only 12.5 million inflators have been fixed, out of 70 million.

A recall is when a company takes a product off the market. The action can be of the company's own will or requested by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the agency responsible for handling food related recalls, including drugs.
